SCARS AND STITCHES

On top of the millions of surgical procedures performed each year for medical reasons, we are seeing a sharp rise in both aesthetic procedures and surgery. In fact, 21% of the dermatologist’s work now consists of aesthetic procedures and there are 11 million cosmetic surgeries each year. For all of these reasons, healing and scars are a growing concern as no one wants an unattractive scar that will remind them of the procedure they went through, or act as a “giveaway” in the case of cosmetic surgery. Not to speak about all the surgical procedures one might undergo and that can lead to lifetime marks.

Are freckles damaged skin?

Some people simply have freckles. In this case, they are certainly not a sign of sun exposure or damage. Other people get freckles following sun exposure in summer. In this case, the freckles show that the skin has reacted to UV rays, which can cause damage. Then, make sure you protect your skin with broad-spectrum UVA-UVB sunscreen daily to prevent sun damage.

What can I do about sensitive skin when I’m sick?

When you have a cold or the flu, your facial skin can become more sensitive due to repeated nose blowing. To soothe sore skin, mist the area with La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water and apply  CICAPLAST Baume B5 on red and raw areas. You can leave it on as a mask overnight to help the skin recover.  To reinforce your skin barrier use Toleriane Ultra on a daily basis.

How can I repair sun damaged skin?

The first step to help repair sun damaged skin is to prevent further damage with daily facial sunscreen with retinol molecule, which is known to speed up cell turnover at the skin’s surface for brighter skin, while replenishing collagen and elastin in-depth to repair wrinkles. REDERMIC R UV SPF 30 combines sun filters with retinol suitable for sensitive skin.

How can I get rid of sunburn?

Once you have developed sunburn, the damage has already been done and all you can do is let it heal. Religiously protect the burn from the sun to prevent it from getting any worse, as well as applying a soothing aftersun gel with antioxidants and make sure you stay hydrated. If your skin has blisters, use a skin healing cream from the pharmacy until the burn has fully healed.
